Totem poles are not religious, but they do communicate aspects of a culture. The symbolic meanings of totems and their importance lies in the observer's knowledge and connection to what is portrayed on the totems. Now we have no totem poles per se in our cities but we do have poles and pillars everywhere that serve as a canvas for artists. As a visual hunter I look for these “city totems” and the art they contain. This series is derived from poles I shot outside the famous Five Pointz industrial complex. Other city totems will be posted in the coming year.

If you push enough buttons in Photoshop you may wind up with some image that is abstract. It is the nature of the software. My job as a Visual Hunter is to search out abstraction already there in plain sight but yet not. These are some “natural” occurring abstracts I found in a bus station in Prague

Situated 600 miles west of Ecuador these islands are unique and protected but they are not uninhabited with numbers of small towns. Where there are people there are walls for the visual hunter. On one island the storefronts were decorated with colorful tiles. In this series I manipulated the images of the tiles to make abstracts.

In hunting for walls in East Berlin, I stumbled into an abandoned art school with its gates locked and closed. No getting into this potentially interesting space. As I prepared to walk away, I noticed the gate posts itself was covered with artful musings. My visual hunter instincts again had discovered another overlooked piece of art. There are six plates in this series.

This portfolio is work I created in Photoshop derived from graffiti I photographed along the railroad tracks in Atwater CA a small town within the city of LA. There are 10 Plates in this series of images.
